Compassionate Closets
I’ve been thinking a lot about consumer habits recently and even more so during this quarantine. Our daily patterns have been disrupted and most likely changed for the foreseeable future. Is it all bad? No, it truly is not. We are living in a state of careless taking from our planet, its resources and our animal cohabitants. What better time is there to make thoughtful and eco-conscious changes in both our mindsets and purchases.
I call it "connecting the dots". To me, it means to think one step further about what you are buying. What material is this made of? Where did it come from? Who was this jacket or handbag? Is that band on my hat made of leather actually necessary? Maybe to some, but take it one step further and you are reminded that the leather is the skin of an abused animal who is also a part of the animal agriculture industry. Animal Ag is one of the leading causes of environmental catastrophe to our planet. See the connection?
I’m hoping that by shining a bit of light on this topic that you don't feel annoyed or lectured, but rather inspired and excited to discover new brands and items that are headed in the right direction. We can inspire designers to make changes in the materials they choose to use. We can celebrate and discuss the beauty of thoughtful fashion. We can continue to support and build a digital demand for the cruelty-free market. We can support blogs, like my own and many others, that encourage this way of buying. Let’s grow our community of conscious fashion lovers together. 🖤
